TVA Nuclear and our counterparts within the nuclear Industry are preparing to implement new Federal identification standards in support of the Real ID Act.
The NRC and TVA have been approved for a phased implementation of REAL ID, with full implementation required by May 5, 2027. What does this mean?
Beginning May 7, 2025, the REAL ID Act goes into effect. At that time, all U.S. citizens 18 years of age or older will be required to have a REAL ID to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities.
All employees and contractors with a TVA issued credential (employee badge) will continue to have access to TVA facilities.
Contractors and visitors attempting to access TVA facilities without REAL ID-compliant identification will receive a warning until May 5, 2027. No admittance will be allowed after May 5, 2027, without REAL ID-compliant identification.
To avoid impacts to official TVA business, employees and contractors are encouraged to acquire REAL ID-compliant state identification for air travel or provide an acceptable alternative. Visit https://www.dhs.gov/real-id for the full list of alternatives.
To be Real ID compliant you must adhere to one of the following acceptable means of identification:
1. A Real ID State issued ID must feature a star on the upper top portion of the card:
2. Enhanced driver’s licenses (EDLs) are also acceptable:
